Swift Campout 2016 | Nobuhiko Tanabe and Blue Lug
With the summer solstice just having passed us, everyone is excited at the prospect of long summer days and even longer summer nights. The air is crisp with possibilities. Cyclists everywhere yearn for the touch of first light each morning, as it signals the start of a brilliant day’s ride somewhere. Anywhere.
Swift Industries, a bicycle bag company that hails from Seattle, Washington, hosted this year’s Swift Campout last weekend on 25-26 June 2016. It is an event that sees people from all over the world riding to different locations and camping overnight either by themselves or with a group. The idea is to rediscover the great outdoors in a way that only waking up there can make possible.
We followed various rides with interest, but one in particular resonated deeply with us. Nobuhiko Tanabe of Blue Lug, a Japanese bike manufacturer and seller, recently posted photos of his Swift Campout journey with friends to Inawashiro, Fukushima, and the result is absolutely breathtaking. We’ll let the atmospheric shots speak for themselves.

And if that wasn’t enough, there’s also video footage of their 2015 trip to the same place, which is equally arresting:
